Fasten your seatbelt. New York’s Mamdani era is only a few days away.

The Uganda-born mayor-elect announced his appointment of EMS veteran Lillian Bonsignore to head the FDNY last week, positioning her as the first lesbian to hold the job despite having never served as a firefighter. 

“Although she’s never served as a firefighter, she’s confident that won’t matter,” a recent profile on Bonsignore said. “[She] is a trailblazer for the LGBTQ community who will serve as the FDNY's first openly gay commissioner.”

This is what happens when establishment politicians lose the public’s trust. Voters pivot to fringe voices like Mamdani, who hold popular positions on some issues but are completely off the rails on others. New Yorkers choose their mayor-elect because of affordability and common-sense nationalism, and will have to deal with his zany social and public safety views as a result. This could have been avoided if the people previously in charge had done their jobs on the things that actually mattered.
